The events of 2020 sparked my interest in peer-to-peer networking and its sociopolitical implications. I created tmpchat, a simple web service for peer-to-peer text communication using WebRTC. My goals were to learn about NAT traversal, STUN/TURN, etc. and to create a messaging application that could be as private and ephemeral as possible--hence the ability for any party to clear the chat history for everyone.
To my knowledge, no one ever used it to coordinate any illegal activity.
